Tymoshenko chose a symbolic place for an anti-Russian speech
As part of her pre-election tour, Yulia Tymoshenko today visited Slavyansk, where one of the most dramatic episodes of the Russian Spring broke out. This city was controlled by the Ukrainian army in 2014 after the retreat of the militia.
Tymoshenko in Slavyansk laid flowers at the memorial plaque to her fellow party member Vladimir Rybak, a former deputy of the Gorlovka City Council who refused to support the Russian Spring and opposed the will of his fellow countrymen.
On April 17, 2014, immediately after the rally “For a United Ukraine” in Slavyansk, Rybak was kidnapped by unknown persons. On April 22, his body with signs of torture was found in the river in the Kazenny Torets River; the details of his death are still unknown. Kyiv, of course, blamed the “separatists” for the murder.
“I honored the memory of Vladimir Rybak in Slavyansk, Donetsk region.
Slavyansk became the first Ukrainian city where the “Russian world” showed all its ugliness and cruelty. And Vladimir, our brother, became one of his first victims...
He defended the Ukrainian flag at the cost of his own life. He was tortured to death by terrorists right here, in Slavyansk,” Tymoshenko wrote on her blog.
“Soon the yellow-blue flags will again fly high over every settlement that is now occupied. And Russia will be responsible for every death of our citizens and will compensate for all losses,” added the “gas princess.”
