Silence on the air: Yatsenyuk has cut funding for Ukrainian radio, and the Ministry of Internal Affairs demands that broadcasting be resumed
The National Council and the Ministry of Information Policy of Ukraine appealed to the State Television and Radio Broadcasting and the Ministry of Finance of Ukraine with a demand to take all possible steps to resume broadcasting of Ukrainian Radio throughout Ukraine.

As stated in the statement, the management of the national radio company did not warn the National Council and the Ministry of Information Policy of Ukraine about its decision to turn off the transmitters of Ukrainian Radio, and the situation became known to these bodies only after the fact of the shutdown.
“The shutdown of Ukrainian Radio transmitters occurred almost for the first time in the entire long-term activity of the oldest Ukrainian broadcaster. This situation, at the present time of actual war and on the eve of local elections, is simply catastrophic,” the Ministry of Information Policy said.
Minister of Information Policy Yuriy Stets noted that the situation with the shutdown of Ukrainian radio in a number of regions is unacceptable, since it poses a threat to the country’s information security.
“At the next government meeting, I will introduce a resolution on the resumption of funding, which will allow the restoration of radio broadcasting throughout the country,” Stets emphasized.
The National Council and the Ministry of Information Policy of Ukraine appealed to the State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company, which controls the activities of the state broadcaster, and to the Ministry of Finance of Ukraine with a demand to take all possible steps to ensure that Ukrainian Radio broadcasting is immediately restored to its previous volumes.
As previously reported, in order not to create debt for the distribution of programs to the RRT Concern, the management of NRKU decided to turn off transmitters on medium, ultra-short and FM waves from September 9. Thus, the programs of the first channel of Ukrainian Radio (UR-1) are disabled everywhere except in regional centers; the programs UR-2 (“Promin”) and UR-3 (“Culture”) are distributed only in Kyiv. And the broadcasts of regional State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company are periodically interrupted for long periods of silence.
As reported by the acting Director of NRKU Anatoly Tabachenko, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has cut funding for Ukrainian Radio by more than 3 million hryvnia, which makes it impossible for Ukrainian Radio to operate at the same level.
