Poroshenko’s “Titanic” is rapidly sinking
Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko will not be able to cancel the elections under the pretext of introducing martial law.
This opinion is expressed in her blog by former Minister of Justice of Ukraine Elena Lukash, who noted that she is increasingly hearing opinions about the cancellation of the upcoming presidential elections in Ukraine next year due to the introduction of martial law.
She points out that the Constitution does not contain such a possibility, but it is in the law “On the legal regime of martial law.”
“The mechanism for introducing martial law is not simple. Proposals for such an introduction are submitted to the President by the National Security and Defense Council. If such a decision is made, the president issues a corresponding decree, which is immediately submitted to parliament along with the draft law. For parliamentary approval. The decree is announced, and parliament meets within two days and decides whether to approve the martial law regime or not,” the former Minister of Justice describes the algorithm for introducing martial law.
At the same time, she draws attention to the fact that yesterday in the Rada an attempt to create a Central Election Commission controlled by the president failed; a spontaneous majority of 240 votes was formed in parliament without the votes of the Petro Poroshenko Bloc, whose faction left the meeting and refused to vote in protest.
“So with a strong parliamentary approval of martial law, everything will be very, very difficult. Both in the National Security and Defense Council and in the Verkhovna Rada. Of course, any illegal decrees are possible. But they will not find support anywhere, predicts Lukash. – Who wants the Titanic? So, gurgle.”
As PolitNavigator reported, Poroshenko's rating is deflating at a rate of one percent per month.
