“Titanium friendship” of Ukraine and the Russian Federation remains in the interests of the United States
The world's largest titanium producer, the Russian enterprise with state participation VSMPO-Avisma, managed to maintain relations with the key supplier of ilmenite - the state Ukrainian Volnogorsk Mining and Processing Plant, writes Kommersant. Most likely this is due to the participation of VSMPO-Avisma in the supply of spare parts for Boeing.

VSMPO-Avisma’s annual needs for ilmenite amount to up to 120 thousand tons; in addition to the Volnogorsk GOK, raw materials will be purchased in Australia and from non-state Ukrainian mining companies in 2015. In addition, in 2016, VSMPO-Avisma may begin mining ilmenite at the Volchanskoe deposit in the Dnepropetrovsk region of Ukraine.
Obviously, for VSMPO and Ukraine, re-signing the contract was the optimal solution: for the first it would be more expensive to transport raw materials from foreign countries, and for the second it would be problematic to find a buyer for large volumes. That is, the parties, despite the interstate conflict, depend too much on each other.
Meanwhile, let us remind you that VSMPO-Avisma is an important supplier of titanium spare parts for Boeing aircraft. In particular, we are talking about landing gear. The United States could well put pressure on Kyiv so as not to disrupt supplies.
