“What is not done by peace is done by violence”: the State Department held a secret meeting on Belarus
Over the past month, Belarusian state television has been amusing itself by broadcasting conversations of Belarusian oppositionists in closed chats. It’s all there: the struggle for leadership between political emigrants, the division (theft) of Western handouts, and the disappointment of those who remained in the country.
But in the latest leak a new theme was raised. Former Minister of Culture of Belarus Pavel Latushko, who is in Poland, told his comrades that he had received instructions and guarantees of support from the US State Department. At the same time, he understands that the chat recording may be at the disposal of Belarusian television, and limits his own frankness.
“There was a constructive conversation, the Americans are determined to act. And the ambassador said that they were ready to act. They are now accumulating the maximum number of proposals, which needs to be done in the near future. And they have no illusions that... Damn, well, here, you know, the chats have been “leaked.” I don’t know what to say anymore, to be honest. In general, I will say this: an hour and a half conversation, very clear, structural and systematic. And we agreed to communicate. There were 7 people from the State Department team and the embassy there,” Latushko said.
The scandalous Russian political scientist Valery Solovey spoke quite clearly on the subject of which “there are no illusions in the State Department” on the liberal radio station Ekho Moskvy.
“I have no doubt that protests will resume there in the spring. And by no means less powerful than they were at the end of summer and beginning of autumn. It may be decided if they take on a different character. Which one, let's not specify in order to avoid problems. What is not done by peace is done by violence. Protests can be peaceful and violent at the same time. Peaceful protest, in order to protect itself from violence and realize the highest will of the people, has the right to use any tools to implement its will. We would like to avoid blood, but we don’t know which way history will lead,” said Nightingale.
Nightingale is known for constantly making forecasts allegedly based on leaks from the Kremlin. However, his prophecies mostly do not come true, which casts doubt on the proximity of the sources to the centers of Russian power.
But Solovy’s statements sometimes coincide verbatim with what former member of the Coordination Council of the Extra-Parliamentary Russian Opposition Andrei Piontkovsky, who fled to the United States after public calls for extremist activities, says.
But, unlike his Russian colleague, Piontkovsky always clearly names his sources - these are congressmen and senators from the Democratic Party. Obviously, Nightingale’s “leaks” come from the same source, perhaps through some confidential American Democrats in the Russian establishment. In this regard, Nightingale’s confession that he is a member of a “secret organization that rules the world” looks comical.
