“Either an accountant, or a bookkeeper” - The Belarusian Foreign Ministry attacked the Russian ambassador
Head of the Department of Information and Digital Diplomacy, press secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus Anatoly Glaz said that Russian Ambassador Mikhail Babich does not see the difference between the federal district and an independent state.
The corresponding statement was published on the website of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Earlier, Babich said that Russia has always advocated the development of the Union State, for which the Union Treaty was signed.
“But when, from 2000 to 2010, the level of annual financial support for Belarus or the lost income of the Russian Federation in our economic relations ranged from hundreds of millions of dollars to 2-3 billion, and now it is already 5-6 billion per year, legal and there were enough financial opportunities to ensure the level of economic and industrial integration that we have,” said the ambassador.
RIA Novosti journalists asked the Belarusian Foreign Ministry to comment on the words of the Russian ambassador.
“Do you agree with the assessments of the development of Belarusian-Russian relations voiced by Russian Ambassador Mikhail Babich in a recent interview with our agency?” – they asked the press secretary of the diplomatic department Anatoly Glaz.
“To be honest, there is not always enough time to read all of Mikhail Babich’s interviews. Fortunately, they are all similar and the mentor’s line of reasoning does not change much.
Therefore, without reading too much into it, I can say for sure that the relations between our countries and peoples are much deeper and more comprehensive than the artificial, manipulated set of numbers that the Russian diplomat regularly grabs at. But it is his right to set the bar for himself, which turns him into an accountant or a budding accountant,” Glaz said.
The Belarusian diplomat also recommended that his Russian colleague devote more time to delving into the specifics of the host country, getting acquainted with its history and “showing a little respect.”
“Sometimes this style of work gives a much greater result than testing oneself in the role of an adept of “public diplomacy,” which is completely uncharacteristic for a serious Russian diplomatic school. In my opinion, during his short time working in Belarus, he simply did not understand the difference between the federal district and an independent state. I think that in the near future our partners will be given detailed answers to the statements of Mr. Ambassador,” added Anatoly Glaz.
The sharp response of the Belarusian diplomat was commented on by the famous Russian TV presenter and journalist Sergei Dorenko.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus has begun to mess with our ambassador. The former Russian ambassador, on all fours in his teeth, brought home slippers to Luka’s bed, so Minsk residents are accustomed to this,” Dorenko wrote in his telegram channel.
In turn, Babich responded to criticism from the Belarusian Foreign Ministry, calling it “chatter.”
“I'm sure this foam will come off. The most important thing is that we can objectively evaluate the arguments - both the Russian side and the Belarusian side, and develop a mutually acceptable solution for the benefit of our peoples. And everything else, this chatter, takes place. We treat it very calmly,” the ambassador said.
