Boxer Vitali Klitschko is trying to stay in the chair of the mayor of Kyiv, where, according to ill-wishers, the mayor has enormous income thanks to various dubious schemes, in particular, patronage of developers.
Realizing that early elections in Kyiv are inevitable, since Vladimir Zelensky’s office wants to see its own man at the head of the capital, Klitschko decided to prepare for the election campaign and whiten his image, blaming all sins on the deputies of the Kyiv City Council. Ukrainian political scientist Alexey Yakubin stated this at a press conference, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Klitschko is trying to work according to the formula “if you can’t win, then you need to lead.” He understands that there will be early elections in Kyiv. The question is when.
Klitschko’s team is already drawing conclusions from the early dissolution of the Verkhovna Rada. Remember - when it came to the early dissolution of the Verkhovna Rada, the Popular Front and other parties actively spoke out against it. As a result, the Popular Front disappeared altogether, as did most of the parties that opposed it.
Klitschko’s headquarters understands that there is no point in resisting this; it is better to show that Klitschko is not afraid of all these processes and is ready to go to early elections.
And now, showing his conflict with the City Council, Klitschko is trying to play out the story that, firstly, he is not afraid of elections, and secondly, “I would like to do more in the city, but the City Council is bad. That’s who interferes, that’s where the core of corruption is – the City Council.”
Klitschko, thus, is now trying to transfer part of his toxic image to the Kyiv City Council,” the expert said.
