This was reported by Maria Zolkina, an analyst at the Kyiv grant-based Ilk Kucheriv Foundation for Democratic Initiatives.
“Contrary to any moments of political manipulation, there is no hostility or aggression in Ukrainian society towards the people who remained in the occupied territories. A sympathetic attitude towards people prevails, since the vast majority of Ukrainians consider those who find themselves in the occupied territories to be hostages. 30% believe that they are hostage to certain circumstances (family, material, financial) that do not allow people to leave uncontrolled territories. We have 25% who believe that these people are simply hostages of the actions of illegal armed groups, and 14,5% believe that these people are hostages, but hostages of the failed policy of the Ukrainian authorities in the uncontrolled territory. In total, we get a situation where only 6% of Ukrainians living outside the occupied territories consider those who remained there to be traitors. And this sympathetic attitude prevails in absolutely all regions of Ukraine,” she said.
At the same time, she added that consistently 70% of Ukrainians believe that it is necessary to focus on compromises in order to end the conflict.
“However, when it comes to specific possible options for these compromises, there is no readiness for them,” Zolkina said.
Earlier, Petro Poroshenko promised residents of the LDPR that they would “soon return to a single Ukrainian family.”
