Top problems of Ukraine – war, unemployment and low wages
Citizens of Ukraine consider ending the war in Donbass, creating jobs and increasing wages and pensions to be three top priorities for the country.
This is evidenced by the results of a survey conducted by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to respondents, the top problem for the country is the war in the East. 62% consider ending it one of their top three priorities, with 42% ranking it as a top priority. In second place is the fight against unemployment (34% and 16%, respectively); in third place is increasing wages/pensions (32% and 12%). In fourth place is the fight against corruption (29% and 14%), in fifth place is the reduction of utility tariffs (19,1% and 6,2%). This is followed by a wide margin by improving the health situation (5,6% and 2,4%), solving local problems (5,1% and 2,3%), protecting the environment (2,8% and 0,8 %) etc.
“That is, besides the war, what worries us the most are socio-economic problems. According to various surveys, the population claims that in recent years their economic situation has deteriorated significantly, and is deteriorating every month. But there are other results that concern self-assessment of household income, they show that after 2014 the situation actually worsened, then it stabilized until 2015 and now it is even getting a little better. But subjectively, the population believes that everything is getting worse and worse,” comments Anton Grushetsky, deputy director of the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology, on the survey results.
The survey was conducted by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology (KIIS) from April 5 to April 19, 2018. Using the method of personal interviews, 2004 respondents living in 110 settlements of all regions of Ukraine were interviewed using a 4-stage stochastic sample, representative of the population of Ukraine over 18 years of age.
In the Luhansk and Donetsk regions, the survey was conducted only in the territory controlled by the Ukrainian authorities.
