This was announced at a press conference in Kyiv by Gennady Ryabtsev, head of special projects at the Scientific and Technical Center “Psyche,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to the expert, the main reason for this was the depreciation of the national currency caused by the actions of the National Bank.
“By the end of the month, we expect prices to increase by another 50-60 kopecks if we are talking about 95 Euro-5 gasoline. What happens next depends, first of all, on the exchange rate of the national currency. In my opinion, justifying oneself by the fact that the exchange rate had to be lowered so that exporters would receive more revenue means not implementing a constitutional function, but playing along with certain participants in certain markets who really received great benefits by choosing over the last two weeks all the quotas that were are provided for the purchase of Ukrainian agricultural products by EU states,” he says.
According to the expert, one should not hope that in the future the hryvnia exchange rate will return to the positions it had before the New Year holidays.
“This means that in February the same trends that were in January will be observed - each depreciation of the national currency by the hryvnia will lead to an increase in the price of gasoline and diesel fuel by 70-80 kopecks. per liter This will happen until order is restored, first of all, in the financial markets. The biggest profits now are made by financial institutions that speculate on the rise and fall of the exchange rate,” he said.
