Transnistria's trade turnover with Russia is growing, but with Ukraine is falling
The share of Russia in the total trade turnover of Transnistria is 35,5%. It remains the main trading partner of the PMR.
The State Customs Committee of Transnistria reports this on its official website, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The foreign trade turnover of the PMR with the Russian Federation increased over the six months of this year compared to the first half of 2018 by 18%. Trade turnover with Ukraine decreased by 40% compared to last year. At the same time, the import of goods from the neighboring state decreased by almost half (by 47%), and exports decreased by 17%.
“This and a number of other factors affected the overall indicators of the republic’s foreign trade turnover, which decreased by 6% compared to last year,” the report says.
The main reason for the negative dynamics was a 42% decrease in exports of metals and products made from them. This is due to both Ukrainian sanctions and the introduction of American duties on steel and aluminum, which led to an imbalance in the PMR metallurgical industry.
As a result, the volumes of exported products of such a budget-generating enterprise as Moldavian Metallurgical Plant OJSC decreased by 2018% compared to the first half of 45. In general, across the republic, imports of metals and products made from them have decreased since the beginning of the year by 86%, and exports by 66%.
It is noted that in the first half of 2019, the share of import and export transactions with CIS countries amounted to 75% of the total trade turnover of Pridnestrovie. With non-CIS countries – 25%. At the same time, the structure of foreign trade with states that are members of the Eurasian Economic Union and the European Union has developed in the ratio of 40% and 20%, respectively.
