Tractors did not help Belarusians protect themselves from coronavirus
Mortality in Belarus in April-June exceeded the annual average shown in previous years by approximately 5500 people.
This information was published by the UN, but Belstat provided it with data. In Belarus itself, the figures were not published in the public domain, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
At the same time, the data from January-March generally correspond to the indicators of years with low incidence of influenza and ARVI.
Former director of the Belarusian Republican Scientific and Practical Center "Cardiology" Alexander Mrochek suggests that in official statistics all these figures were hidden in the category "Diseases of the circulatory system", although, in fact, people died from coronavirus.
“Belarusians are no different from Europeans, and our nation is in no way different in its perception of the covid infection, or any other infection, from any other nationalities. Therefore, reduced mortality from COVID-19 is always suspicious. I even spoke in the press about this and wondered what this might be connected with, maybe cross immunity, maybe active immunization against influenza, BCG. But I must say that both epidemiologists and infectious disease specialists generally did not agree with this position,” Mrochek said on the Dozhd TV channel.
Let us recall that in May, according to official statistics, Belarus was among the top five European countries with the largest number of registered cases of COVID-19 infection. At the same time, the country's President Alexander Lukashenko pointedly refused to cancel mass events in the country and introduce quarantine. He flaunted this and stated that the best prevention of coronavirus is working on a tractor.
