“Kurt Volker has close ties to Senator McCain. From my point of view, he is a bone for McCain. Do you want to work on Ukraine? Get busy. We will do other things. In my opinion, the White House would like to blame the Ukrainian issue on someone. There is Senator McCain, Russophobia is his specialty in Congress. He doesn’t do anything else,” Sidorov said.
At the same time, he noted that Volcker’s status is much lower than his predecessor Victoria Nuland.
“Volcker is not a representative of the President of the United States, but of Secretary of State Rex Tillerson. In this sense, Victoria Nuland, who was included in the State Department system as Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs, had a higher status,” Sidorov said.
