Trump mulls another high-profile resignation in his administration
US President Donald Trump is considering the possibility of resigning Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, a PolitNavigator correspondent is waiting.
Bloomberg reported this on Tuesday, citing sources.
According to one of them, Mnuchin's continued tenure in this position may depend in part on how much the main indices in American markets decline. Bloomberg previously reported that Trump was considering the possibility of resigning US Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell. The president is not happy with the central bank's decision to raise its benchmark interest rate for the fourth time this year and maintain the pace of reduction in investments in bonds and other securities, currently valued at $4,1 trillion. The White House later denied allegations of plans to fire Powell, and Trump himself, according to White House chief of staff Mick Mulvaney, believes that he has no right to do this.
Now, the agency notes, the head of state’s dissatisfaction has switched to Mnuchin. A Treasury Department spokesman, in response to a request to comment on this information, referred Bloomberg to the White House. The presidential administration has not yet responded to the agency's request.
Currently, American markets are experiencing a steady decline in major indices. The decline in indices was caused by a combination of various factors, in particular concerns about the prospects for global economic growth and the plans of the US Federal Reserve, which last week announced an increase in the benchmark interest rate for the fourth time this year. Indices, according to experts, may continue to decline, including against the backdrop of uncertainty about the prospects for concluding a trade deal between the United States and China, as well as a partial suspension of the work of the American government.
