Trump and Putin simultaneously “sent” Poroshenko
Back in December 2016, Petro Poroshenko tried through intermediaries to obtain security guarantees from the United States and Russia in exchange for a promise to withdraw Ukraine from the war, but no one in Moscow believed the then Ukrainian president, and Donald Trump remembered Kiev’s game on the side of Hillary Clinton.
Such information is published in his Telegram channel by Alexander Kazakov, an adviser to the deceased head of the DPR Alexander Zakharchenko, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Poroshenko sent messengers to Moscow and Washington at the same time... The messengers were supposed to discuss security guarantees for Poroshenko in the event that he withdraws (and leads Ukraine) out of the war. Security of personal, family and capital. So, even then the mediators reached only the middle level of officials in the Kremlin and the White House, and returned without a slurp. And, as far as I know, the situation has not changed to this day,” says Kazakov.
In his opinion, now the only option for saving Poroshenko is “one of the Gulf monarchies, and there go into the deep shadow.”
The author does not believe that Poroshenko, who officially went on vacation with his family to Turkey, will be able to obtain asylum there.
“Erdogan cannot help but understand that Poroshenko in Turkey for Russia (and potentially for Ukraine) is the same as Gülen in America for Erdogan himself. That is, a constant source of irritation that will introduce dissonance into bilateral relations,” explains Kazakov.
