Trump set Zelensky up in front of Merkel and Macron
The transcript of a telephone conversation with Vladimir Zelensky released by the Donald Trump administration puts the Ukrainian president in a stupid position - the transcript contains attacks on German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Emmanuel Macron.
Political scientist Vladimir Kornilov drew attention to this detail in his blog, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
In the conversation, Zelensky complains to Trump that France and Germany do not support Ukraine enough in terms of anti-Russian sanctions. At the same time, Zelensky agrees with the US President, emphasizing that he is “1000% right” when voicing claims to the leaders of the European Union.
“Now it’s clear why Zelensky was not enthusiastic about the idea of publishing the recordings. Trump is attacking Europe for doing poorly in the Ukrainian direction. But he says this publicly. But Zelensky, who publicly bows to Europe, agrees with Trump “1000%” and snitches on Merkel and Macron,” comments Kornilov.
“I can now imagine how Zelensky will call Merkel or Macron and ask them, “Well, how is the Normandy process?” Oh, they will remind him of this recording of the conversation with Trump! Zelensky should be glad that he met with Merkel before the tape was made public. And now he would quickly pack his bags and flee New York before he crosses paths with her again,” the expert concluded.
