Trump appointed anti-Russian CIA hawk as new secretary of state to replace fired Tillerson
US President Donald Trump has decided to replace US Secretary of State by appointing CIA Director Mike Pompeo instead of Rex Tillerson.
Trump wrote about this on Twitter.
“Mike Pompeo, head of the CIA, will become the new Secretary of State. He will do a great job! Thanks to Rex Tillerson for his work!” - Trump wrote.
The New York Times wrote at the end of November last year, citing a source in the US administration, that the White House plans to transfer the post of US Secretary of State, currently held by Tillerson, to Mike Pompeo, currently the head of the CIA. American media also reported tensions between Trump and Tillerson.
The Washington Post reported that on March 9, Trump asked Tillerson to resign as head of the State Department, and he had to end his trip to Africa early and return to Washington. However, then both Trump and Tillerson denied rumors about imminent personnel changes.
Let us remember that Rex Tillerson is known as a businessman who had joint oil projects with the Russians in the past. At the same time, as the new Secretary of Statewas distinguished by harsh anti-Russian statements and earned a reputation as a “hawk” in the White House administration.
