Trump hates Zelensky - Kyiv political scientist
For the United States, Ukraine is only a means of fighting between US presidential candidates – Joe Biden and Donald Trump.
Political scientist Yuri Romanenko stated this on his video blog, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to the expert, the West is not interested in Ukraine, the new NATO status does not actually expand its capabilities, and the United States will not stand up for it because President Trump hates his Ukrainian colleague Vladimir Zelensky.
“The special NATO status that was given to Ukraine means nothing at all. The Americans themselves say this, that it does not expand Ukraine’s capabilities fundamentally, and does not take these relations to a deeper level. That is, this is not a MAP - an action plan for NATO membership, which Ukraine lost in Bucharest more than ten years ago.
Regarding Ukraine, I think that now in the States there is a situation where there is no time for Ukraine. Ukraine is interesting only in the context of corruption scandals. At the same time, Trump hates Zelensky because of that telephone conversation and the clumsy attempts that followed it to resolve the situation. For Trump, Ukraine is a problem.
Biden, too, I think, treats Ukraine accordingly. Therefore, the only role that Ukraine will play in American politics is the showdown between Trump and Biden in the domestic American context of the presidential elections, that’s all,” Romanenko said.
