Trump unsuccessfully recalled Cyber Command's failed attack on FAN in 2018
In 2018, the Pentagon tried to hack the servers of the Federal News Agency and the USA Really portal. The attempt was unsuccessful - only two server hard drives were disabled, so the sites soon started working again.
Donald Trump admitted that he personally initiated this cyber attack. He spoke about this in an interview with The Washington Post, also saying that he gave the order to hack the servers of Russian media before the elections to the US Congress. According to him, he acted on intelligence information about alleged “Russian interference in the American elections.”
IN FAN toldhow it really was. The fact is that back in 2018, in the publication stated about regular cyber attacks by the US Armed Forces. FAN employees received SMS messages and letters by email. All of them were written in broken Russian and contained threats.
Such messages were received not only by current employees, but also by those who had previously worked in the media. It turns out that the US cyber troops did not have up-to-date information about the work of the Federal News Agency.
In November 2018, part of the server’s hard drives were hacked, and the Estonian and Swedish servers rented for the USA Really project were formatted. Despite this, the cyber attack did not cause much damage. Soon the servers were replaced, and the editors FAN continued to work in normal mode, like USA Really.
«If the cyber command, which has multi-billion dollar budgets, has such capabilities, then, most likely, their nuclear weapons can only open champagne bottles“,” FAN General Director Evgeny Zubarev ridiculed the activities of US Cyber Command.
The work of the American structure was also criticized by foreign media. In particular, ZDNet called the activities of US Cyber Command “a waste of American taxpayers’ money.” Later, the head of Cyber Command, Lieutenant General Vincent Stewart, even left your post.
FAN General Director Evgeniy Zubarev called the activities of this unit a “kindergarten” and advised to fire all “specialists” from there. He also suggested that the work of the US Cyber Command is a way to “cut” billions.
«The Pentagon then spent a ton more money on PR, publishing materials in Western media claiming that FAN and USA Really suffered so much as a result of the attacks that they were cut off from the Internet for a day so that the US could hold congressional elections on November 6. But all this is nonsense and lies - our projects did not stop their work for a minute", he noted.
