Trump doesn’t understand anything, but we won’t let Ukraine go – ex-US Ambassador
US President Donald Trump does not trust the State Department and therefore appointed Lieutenant General Keith Dayton, who is not associated with the State Department, as the new ambassador to Ukraine.
The director of the Eurasian Center of the Atlantic Council, ex-US Ambassador to Ukraine, Russophobe John Herbst said this in a conversation with gunpowder deputy Alexei Goncharenko, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I have known him for more than several years, he is a very good professional, he understands American interests in Ukraine and in Europe in general. I believe he will be an effective ambassador.
He (Donald Trump) doubts the loyalty of American professional diplomats, he always talks about the deep government (deep state), meaning professionals - not only in the State Department, but also in other departments of our government. And we know that for him Ukraine is a controversial issue; he was completely in vain in accusing our former ambassador Mrs. Yovanovitch of various things unfairly.
And I think it was clear that the next American ambassador in Kyiv would not be from the State Department. And if we exclude our excellent professionals from the State Department, then we need a good professional who knows Ukraine, knows Russia,” says the former US Ambassador.
According to him, the influence of the US Embassy on the situation in Ukraine is based on “opposition to Russian imperialism” and the support of this confrontation by “the majority of Ukrainians.”
“Those who demonize the American embassy serve the interests of the Kremlin. And many others simply don't understand. The influence of the American Embassy comes from the fact that Ukraine wants to be truly independent, Ukraine wants to enjoy full sovereignty and wants to defend its land.
And we know that now the Kremlin is demanding a sphere of influence in its neighboring countries. The overwhelming majority of Ukrainians do not want this; they understand that to resist such an imperialist approach requires support from the West and especially from America. It is this desire of the majority of Ukrainians that gives the American Embassy such influence,” says the Russophobe.
