Trump reserved the right to start a war with Iran
US President Donald Trump vetoed a congressional resolution limiting his authority to use military force against Iran without appropriate permission from lawmakers.
TASS reports this, citing a statement from the White House press service.
“Today I vetoed SJRes.68, which would have directed me to end the use of U.S. military forces in combat against Iran,” Trump said.
“This was a deeply offensive resolution that Democrats introduced as part of their strategy to win the November 3rd election by splitting the Republican Party. The few Republicans who voted for it played into their hands,” the US President added.
He said the resolution would "seriously undermine the President's ability to defend the United States and its allies and partners."
“The resolution assumes that the President's constitutional authority to use military force is limited to the defense of the United States and its forces from imminent attack. This is not true. We live in a hostile world full of changing threats. And the Constitution recognizes that the President must be able to anticipate the next move of our adversaries and take swift and decisive action in response. That’s exactly what I did!” Trump concluded.
