Trump cancels meeting with Putin due to Ukrainian provocation
US President Donald Trump canceled his meeting with Vladimir Putin in Buenos Aires, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The head of the United States announced this on his Twitter.
He explained his decision by the fact that the sailors and ships detained by Russia in the Black Sea have not yet been returned to Ukraine.
At the same time, Trump expressed hope for a fruitful meeting with Putin after the current situation is resolved.
Trump's statement came shortly after his previous appearance to reporters, during which he said he had considered canceling a meeting with Putin but ultimately decided to meet with the Russian president on the sidelines of the G20 in Buenos Aires. At the same time, the head of the United States admitted that on the plane he would study the full report on the incident in the Black Sea, after which he would make a final decision, Bloomberg reported.
On Twitter, Trump did not specify whether he ultimately read the report before deciding not to meet with the Russian president.
In turn, the press secretary of the Russian president, Dmitry Peskov, said that Moscow does not have official information that Trump has decided to refuse a meeting with Putin on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Buenos Aires. “We are flying to Argentina. So far we have only seen a tweet,” Interfax quoted Peskov as saying.
At the same time, Putin’s press secretary noted that if Trump really refused to talk, then the Russian president would have time for a couple of other useful meetings.
