Trump helped Russia with Nord Stream 2
The Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline will be completed before the new year, as evidenced by Danish issuance of permit to lay a gas pipeline in its exclusive economic zone.
This was stated by the director of the National Energy Security Fund, Konstantin Simonov, who was quoted by Kommersant.
“Politicians, including both American and European, have the feeling that Nord Stream 2 is the main battle: if we delay the decision, delay construction, then Gazprom will be forced to give up and there will definitely be a new transit agreement. Of course, Ukraine also had the same feeling, and it turned into such a psychological story: Copenhagen delayed as best it could,” Simonov said.
According to him, now the Danes have considered that they have fulfilled their political function, and now they can return to what they think is civilized relations and remember about international law.
“Moreover, I do not rule out that Donald Trump helped us in some way with the story about Greenland, because it’s very cynical he wiped his feet on the Danes“, noted the director of the National Energy Security Foundation, recalling the American president’s attempt to buy Greenland from Denmark.
He also emphasized that the United States most likely will not impose sanctions against those involved in the construction of the gas pipeline, since “there are no sanctions that would stop the construction of Nord Stream 2.”
“Let’s figure it out now: Gazprom raised money itself, and it had five European partners who were prohibited by the decision of the European Court, according to the claim of Poland, from being shareholders of this project. But they honestly said that they have obligations to Gazprom and will finance this project without being its shareholders. They have already deposited all the money into the cash register, that is, all the money belongs to Nord Stream 2 AG,” the expert describes the situation.
“Neither from a technical point of view, nor from a financial point of view, sanctions will no longer have an impact. The pipe will definitely be completed. And that’s why it’s ridiculous to introduce sanctions when you know for sure that you will lose,” Simonov concluded.
As PolitNavigator reported, The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine statedthat Denmark’s decision confirmed Ukraine was right.
