Trump is eager to compete, Putin is eager to cooperate
President Donald Trump believes that the United States will be able to successfully compete with the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline by supplying liquefied gas to Europe. He told reporters about this today following the results of his negotiations with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“I'm not sure it's in Germany's interests, but it's their decision. The USA is the world's largest supplier of liquefied natural gas. We must compete with gas pipelines and we will compete successfully, although gas pipelines have some advantages. The United States is a different country now than it was a few years ago: we will be able to produce much more and will be very strong competitors,” Trump said.
Vladimir Putin believes that the United States and Russia could find a compromise on gas supplies to Europe.
“We, as the largest oil and gas powers, could work constructively to regulate international markets. We are not interested in either an extreme drop in prices, since our producers will suffer from this, or in high prices, since this will hit mechanical engineering and other industries. There is a field for cooperation,” Putin said.
