According to the publication’s interlocutor, Trump’s associates convinced him to go to Moscow before the inauguration.
In turn, the publisher of the American magazine The National Interest, Dmitry Simes, told Izvestia that the new US president’s visit to Moscow should take place only after he takes office, so that Trump’s actions are not interpreted as undermining the policies of the current White House administration.
“With this, Trump could greatly expose himself politically. In this regard, it seems to me that Moscow and Donald Trump should postpone serious negotiations until the inauguration of the new US president. Now the President of the United States is Barack Obama, and there is no need to take sudden and rash steps,” Simes believes.
