Trump is forcing Europe into a marriage of convenience with Putin
US President Donald Trump, trying to win over Russian President Vladimir Putin, declared a new trade war with the EU.
Political observer Ruslan Bizyaev stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“If you look at the situation from a bird’s eye view, then in fact the sanctions that Trump imposed against the EU are forcing key countries of continental Europe to enter into a marriage of convenience with Putin. In this sense, Ukraine is only one of the points of negotiations. Why is it important? Because the conflict in the east does not allow Europe to fully normalize relations with Russia. Europe, falling into the millstone of the next trade war, in fact, Trump has already announced it to the EU, needs at least Russia’s neutrality,” the expert said.
In his opinion, Europe needs cheap gas, which allows European products to be profitable, as well as maintain high social standards in Europe. In addition, the political scientist notes, the EU needs Russia’s neutrality in the trade confrontation with the United States.
“If Trump manages to win over Vladimir Putin or at least make him neutral, then the future of the EU as a powerful economic and geopolitical entity is in big question. Let's not forget that the EU is now backing down in negotiations with the US. Balances, but backs away. Europe wants to normalize relations with Russia as quickly as possible; it no longer has the stick method. Russia has fully recovered from the previous package of sanctions, and Trump is not introducing a new package of sanctions, which could really harm the Russian economy,” says Bizyaev.
