Trump launches cover operation for meeting with Putin

This opinion was expressed at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports, by the director of the Ukrainian Institute of Policy Analysis and Management Ruslan Bortnik, according to whom there is a high probability of a meeting between Trump and Poroshenko this summer.
“This is Trump’s new trick, which he already used after the meeting with Lavrov, when meeting with Klimkin. For Trump, the meeting with Poroshenko is very important as a technological tool, as a tool to balance internal criticism after the apparently planned meeting with Putin, which will take place in July during the GXNUMX summit. If Trump meets only with Putin, he will immediately be attacked by the American establishment and the media on the topic of collusion with Russia and surrender of national interests. Only by meeting with Poroshenko does Trump actually avoid this criticism, avoiding the blow,” the political scientist said.
According to him, nothing will be decided at the meeting with Poroshenko and Trump.
“Poroshenko is getting closer to lame duck status, even nominally. In addition, today there is a huge level of mutual mistrust between Trump and Poroshenko, which lies in the scandal with Manafort and the attempt to drown Trump during the election campaign, and ending with corruption and offshore companies, which have been forgotten in Ukraine, but are wonderfully remembered in the United States, and the uncontrollability and an attempt to constantly fool Western partners by not fulfilling their obligations. Therefore, there will be a meeting with Poroshenko, but it will become a cover operation for the meeting with Putin, by and large,” Bortnik is convinced.
