Trump was accused of trying to bribe Ukraine
US President Donald Trump tried to bribe Ukraine by blocking the provision of military assistance, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This was stated by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Democrat Nancy Pelosi, CNN reports.
“The way the president described that everything happened perfectly, I would say that this is a completely erroneous statement. This is bribery,” Pelosi said.
As the publication notes, Trump has repeatedly stated that his telephone conversation with Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky in July was “ideal.”
Asked what she considered a bribe in the president's contacts with Ukraine, Pelosi responded that "a bribe consists of providing or withholding military assistance in exchange for a statement about a phony election investigation."
The announcement was reportedly made after receiving what Pelosi called “devastating testimony” against Trump during the first public hearings of the impeachment inquiry. We are talking about the interrogation of US Chargé d'Affaires in Ukraine William Taylor and Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs George Kent.
Earlier, at a public hearing, a top US diplomat spoke about corruption in the Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine.
