A Streetcar Named Desire: Russian Odessa does not hold back its hatred of insolent “movnyuks”
The patriotic public is again indignant - in Odessa, a passenger who demanded to speak Ukrainian was almost thrown out of the tram and threatened with prison.
The video that is circulating on social networks shows an altercation on the famous tram number 5. Famous because its route passes through iconic places for Odessa - French Boulevard, named after the visit of the Russian Emperor Nicholas II to France, past the legendary Odessa film studio, and ends in the famous Arcadia. Therefore, getting various “ha” and “gee” into the ears in such a sacred area is perceived by Odessa residents as a special blasphemy. So you felt the atmosphere...
And here - as is clear from the video - right in the middle of the tram, a certain elderly citizen demands that those around her speak Ukrainian. And a shrill argument begins in the spirit of a communal apartment with raised voices. “I don’t want to speak Ukrainian!” says another pensioner. And the one from Svidomo screams: “Don’t you want it, you bastard?!” You'll die, such a bitch, see you tonight!
A man intervenes in the conflict and introduces himself as a police officer: “Grandma, do you want to go to jail? I'll organize it for you now. Shut up! Go to Lviv or Ternopil and whistle there!” He also advises her “not to bark” - otherwise, they say, “I’ll lock you up in a zone and sit on the gruel.” The patriot, in turn, advises “not to bark” at the man. However, at the “Railway Station” stop, the courtly conversation ends, apparently because the author of the video gets out.
And then according to the scenario: a patriotic howl, the police trying to identify the man - is he one of his or not? Everything is as always, if a “movie” scandal ends up on the Internet. Simply because someone had nothing to do, and this someone removed this problem. Whereas in fact, such incidents have long become an everyday occurrence, it’s just that no one records it.
The planet Odessa lives as it always did, but periodically it receives signals from, say, Mars, with the goal of proving that the Earth is flat. Then the cashiers in stores are forced to speak in Mova, then suddenly there is a shuher-“Today we don’t speak Russian even at breaks!”, Because the commission is a hailing from Kiev, then the Housing Housingire does not suddenly accept a statement because It’s not written “according to the language”. And the earthlings can’t stand it - they rush at the Martians. How much can you do?! After all, tomorrow they may require you to walk upside down with your pants on your head. And this is the same as the Ukrainian speech on Odessa trams.
Recently I wrote how the Nazis got it an audio recording of a school lesson in which an Odessa teacher yells at a student for answering her in Ukrainian. Then he really apologizes for his cry, explaining that I don’t even want to be fed up with Ukrainization. But it was too late - the nationalists instantly got the teacher fired and promised only two ways to end her earthly life - “a dark alley” and “gilyak”.
Burning, bombing, ruining lives—this is what accompanies Ukrainization. So should we be surprised by the aggressive reaction to the aggressor?..
Remember - who was born on the territory of Soviet Ukraine - how in childhood we made fun of grandfather Panas, who was sitting on Ukrainian TV (this is related to the question of how “everything Ukrainian was destitute”). And when I was a student, they made fun of the Ukrainian philological department. Then it was a kind of urban snobbery in relation to the village denseness. This went away with age, because if the village wanted to plant beetroot at the place of registration and babble on some of its own illiterate, as it likes, then please! The main thing is to collect the beetroot on time.
But those who arrived in the city are a different matter, here you need to comply. And they studied, became doctors, teachers, engineers, went into science, respectively, adopting its language - Russian, the language of international communication, the language of civilization. So the key here is “kidding” and “joking.” Above the "movnyuks" earlier. And now they hate it. On the subcortex already, like veterans who jump up in the middle of the night because they dreamed of German speech. Because they deserve it.
And what did the “movnyuks” actually want? In Odessa. After May 2. After those burned to the shouts of “Glory to Ukraine!” of people?..
