The IMF tranche is again moving away from Ukraine
If just a month and a half ago, on the issue of the IMF tranche to Ukraine, the conversation was directly about a loan and about assistance in supporting the economy during the coronavirus period, now no one even mentions the second part of the fund’s program.
Verkhovna Rada deputy from the Servant of the People Maxim Buzhansky stated this on the Ukraine 24 TV channel, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“As for the IMF. I am not a member of the negotiation group, I have the same information as everyone else, but I have not heard or seen any guarantees regarding obtaining a loan. I kept hearing that different loan amounts were mentioned - from eight to ten billion, up to four billion, two at once - two later.
I have heard different versions of how this loan will be used: either it will immediately go into the budget for some current expenses, or it will be written off to pay off our debt. No one has seen any guarantees that if we now adopt this law (the so-called anti-Kolomoisky law on banks - ed.), then tomorrow no additional conditions will arise.
Today at the committee, including the Minister of Justice, the question was raised about who specifically participated in the negotiations with the IMF, who specifically agreed on these conditions, and it turned out that these negotiations were carried out by different groups at different times. This is a little reminiscent of the scene from the cartoon about Prostokvashino “Uncle Fyodor’s Letter”, when they all came up in turn and each of them - a cat, a dog, a boy - wrote a line on a sheet of paper and a letter was obtained,” the deputy said.
“Plus, somehow the main question hung in the air. IMF assistance, let’s call it that, consisted of two parts: a loan that we were supposed to receive under the terms of the loan program, and separate money to support the economy during the coronavirus period. It was said a month and a half ago that there would be two parts - now if we pass (the laws on land and banks - ed.), we will get it. I am surprised to see that they somehow stopped talking about the part related to the coronavirus,” Buzhansky added.
