“We demand mercy” - Russian atheist liberals beg not to execute the Azov Nazis
Representatives of the Russian liberal intelligentsia, including director Alexander Sokurov and human rights activists Eva Merkacheva and Zoya Svetova, sent an open letter to Russian President Vladimir Putin, in which they called on him to propose to the DPR authorities to introduce a moratorium on the death penalty.
They posted it as a petition on the website Change.org and collected 450 signatures in a day, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We are very concerned by reports about the possible imminent execution of death sentences handed down in the Donetsk People's Republic. The strength of our people lies in mercy. We ask you for mercy. We consider it necessary to abolish the death penalty in the Donetsk People's Republic. We ask you to propose to the head of the Donetsk People’s Republic to extend the moratorium on the use of the death penalty to the Donetsk People’s Republic,” the letter says.
“But they did not write a letter to Zelensky demanding to stop killing residents of the DPR. Because lice. Pubic", – journalist Yulia Vityazeva commented on the petition in her TG channel.
The first tribunal for prisoners in the DPR will take place before the end of summer in Mariupol.
