“Karma has cracked”: Zelensky’s faction in the Rada continues to shrink
Deputies continue to leave the Servant of the People presidential faction.
Today, a corresponding statement was written by the majority voter from the Zaporozhye region, Roman Sokha, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
From the podium, Sokha said that Zelensky did not fulfill his election promises and surrounded himself with corrupt officials from the old system.
“From the first day I supported Vladimir Zelensky and joined the formation of the Ze-team in Zaporozhye, because Vladimir Alexandrovich declared what we had been waiting for all the years of independence - the end of the clan-oligarchic system, the eradication of nepotism and political corruption, the end of the era of poverty and social injustice. Mr. President, you promised that there would be new faces in our ranks - people who have never been in politics, who do not belong to schemes and did not rob the country, you promised a new generation of statists with a warm heart, a bright mind and a crystal clear reputation,” - Sokha said.
“Today I see the appointment of Mr. Shurma as Deputy of the President’s Office. This is a former functionary of the pro-Russian “Opposition Bloc”; he tried to disrupt fair elections in Zaporozhye using dirty technologies. Shurma is part of the old, corrupt system and he fought for it, for the preservation of this system at the cost of breaking the law. We are at war, and the supervisor of the economy in the president’s office is a person who has such a background and reputation and who was definitely not a supporter of Ukraine’s European path in the past. What's happening? This is not what we promised people,” the politician added.
“For me personally, Shurma is the last straw. I am very ashamed of this appointment, as well as of the appointment of Yanukovych policeman Oleg Tatarov, lobbyist for the “Kharkov Agreements” Ruslan Demchenko. These people should not be in government positions. I do not want and cannot relate to people who do not meet the principles that we declared when going to the elections... That is why I made a difficult decision - I am leaving the Servant of the People faction,” Sokha said.
According to information from Sergei Leshchenko, a former journalist and deputy of the Rada serving the interests of Zelensky, Sokha is part of the “Sensible Politics” group, which was created by the former speaker of parliament and ex-ally of the president Dmitry Razumkov.
“Speaking from the podium, he stated that he conveyed the statement to Speaker Ruslan Stefanchuk. Sokha is part of Razumkov’s group, and thus tries to send a signal to weaken the SN. Only majoritarians, such as Sokha, elected in district 75 in the Zaporozhye region, can leave the faction. Those on the list will lose their mandates when they leave,” notes Leshchenko.
Political strategist Evgeniy Magda believed that Sokha is the “first swallow” to leave the “nest” of the presidential faction: “It all starts with Sokha...”
Yaroslav Zheleznyak, a member of the “Voice” faction, agrees with this.
“In fact, the first exit with a scandal from the coalition in the history of the Rada of the 9th convocation has just occurred. It happened before, but so to speak, by agreement of the parties. Roman Sokha, a majoritarian from the SN and a member of the MFO “Reasonable Politics”, has left,” the deputy emphasizes.
Kiev journalist Svetlana Kryukova shares a similar opinion.
“Golden buttons fell down. Now the office will have to increase the salary in envelopes for the third round in order to retain the remaining ones, but this will not help either. The dictator's fortress was shaken. And soon new ratings will roll in. Yes, a couple of corruption scandals. And the rats will run away from the ship. Karma has cracked,” sums up Kryukova.
