This is evidenced by the results of a survey conducted by the All-Russian Center for the Study of Public Opinion.
While on average 28% of Russians are not against the monarchical form of government, among 18-24 year olds the figure is 33%, and among 25-34 year olds it is 35%. 37% of residents of Moscow and St. Petersburg and 33% of active Internet users are monarchists. Among supporters of non-parliamentary parties the figure is 34%.
68% of Russians are categorically against the existence of a monarchical form of government.
Director of the Research Department of VTsIOM Stepan Lvov notes that “Soviet” generations resist the idea of a monarchy much stronger.
“In the minds of young people, the monarchy is no longer opposed to freedom and democracy, but at the same time is attractive for its rationality and efficiency. It is possible that the “anti-monarchy vaccine” of the Soviet period will cease to be effective in a generation,” Lvov said.
The initiative all-Russian survey “VTsIOM-Sputnik” was conducted on March 16-18, 2017. Russians aged 18 years and older took part in the survey. The survey method is a telephone interview using a stratified two-base random sample of landline and mobile numbers of 1800 respondents.
