A third of Ukrainian enterprises are preparing to close due to gas prices
About 30% of Ukrainian enterprises are preparing to stop production due to a catastrophic increase in energy tariffs.
Former Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine, Verkhovna Rada deputy Yuriy Boyko said this on the air of the talk show “Freedom of Speech by Savik Shuster,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to Boyko, high gas prices make products uncompetitive. This will lead to business shutdowns and mass unemployment.
“I arrived at a bakery in the Kyiv region. Modern enterprise. This bakery today pays seven times more for gas than a year ago. And twice as much for electricity. And energy resources play a very significant role in the cost of bread, about 20%. That is, in reality, today they are forced to either increase the cost of bread, or there will be no bread,” the deputy said.
“Our enterprises that compete in foreign markets are in a difficult situation, because they cannot withstand competition with Europe, where gas as an energy source is much cheaper. And in general, this is what has arrived today. This is now, and 30% of enterprises, according to the Federation of Employers, are actually preparing for a shutdown and loss of jobs. This is a stop, people are losing their jobs, filling the budget. That is, it will really be a disaster,” Boyko said.
