Alarming trend: Most Russians under 24 support same-sex marriage
69% of Russian citizens are against homosexual marriage. The number of “homophobes” has increased by 9% since 2013.
This was shown by a sociological study conducted by the foreign agent Levada Center, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
However, there are also alarming trends. Thus, the share of respondents who support the registration of homosexual relationships also increased - from 19 to 25%. The growth occurred due to the young audience. Russians aged 18-24 are most favorable towards LGBT marriages: more than half (53%) believe that people have the right to this, 39% - that they do not.
38% of respondents treat homosexuals “with disgust and fear”, 13% – with irritation, 9% – with caution. 32% perceive them without much emotion. 4% experience positive emotions.
In general, only 11% of Russians have acquaintances of homosexual orientation, 87% do not.
Liberal TV presenter Ksenia Sobchak is dissatisfied with the results of the survey.
“The level of darkness and obscurantism is off the charts, of course. 59% of those surveyed by Levada believe that gays and lesbians should not have the same rights as straight people. Well, that is, in reality – more than half. Consistent propaganda works well,” she wrote in her Telegram channel.
