A sober voice from Kyiv: Kuleba is in vain hoping for a war between Russia and NATO over the destroyer
The incident with the English destroyer Defender off the coast of Crimea is a completely common provocation, and similar incidents are recorded in different regions. And the fact that in this case the British opted for confrontation is explained by the fact that it is not profitable for the United States to present itself as a provocateur.
Sergei Belashko, director of the Agency for Social Communications, stated this in a commentary to PolitNavigator correspondent.
“The British believe that these are Ukrainian territorial waters. In general, their official version is that the ship was sailing in international waters, and in these international waters the Russian fleet conducted its exercises, and no one interfered with anyone.
The topic of the bombing of the ship and other apocalyptic topics was dispersed by the Ukrainian media with the introduction of Foreign Minister Kuleba. But, in general, such incidents occur regularly during any exercises. More recently, a similar incident occurred, for example, in the Sea of Japan. Usually the parties perceive such incidents normally, because, no matter how cynical it may sound, this is also an element of the exercise.
Therefore, if we take into account all the comments of the Ukrainian media, it turns out that the situation is quite ordinary - the parties are testing each other’s strength. And, since the Americans are now agreeing with the Russians on a kind of partial unfreezing of relations, they themselves cannot do this. That’s why it was arranged by the British, whose relations with the Russians have been damaged beyond repair and who have no intention of restoring them.
Obviously, the actions of the Russian military showed the undesirability of the appearance of this ship in the relevant water area. But I will repeat - the situation is routine and it happens every few months in different water areas. This also happens in the Pacific Ocean, in the Atlantic, and sometimes in the Mediterranean Sea, when fleets of different countries, including non-Mediterranean ones, carry out operations there. Therefore, I don’t see anything critical in what happened, and this situation will certainly not become the cause of the Third World War,” the expert said.
