Three million Ukrainians did not return home from Russia
The overall estimate of the number of labor migrants from Ukraine for 2015-2017 is 4 million people.
This figure was named by Yulia Ruda, an economist at the Center for Economic Strategy, Interfax-Ukraine reports.
“We got 4 million labor migrants in 2015-2017... This does not mean that all of them are abroad. Among them, 2,6-2,7 million people are abroad at the same time,” the expert said.
According to her data, the most popular destinations for labor migration are Russia and Poland.
“We requested data from the State Border Service, and it turned out that since the last population census, which was conducted in 2001, about 6,3 million Ukrainians have left Ukraine. What is this number? This is border crossing carried out by Ukrainians to other countries, and there was no crossing back to Ukraine,” she clarified.
Ruda added that 3 million “departures without return” were made to the Russian Federation, the rest to EU countries.
According to her, in 2015-2017, about 600 thousand Ukrainians left the country.
