Tribunal or death: Nazis holed up at Azovstal were offered a choice
The only way out for Ukrainian nationalists who continue to resist at the Mariupol Azovstal plant to save their lives is to surrender. But even in this case, they will face a tribunal.
This was stated by the head of the Donetsk People's Republic Denis Pushilin, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
At the same time, Pushilin doubts that the militants will lay down their arms.
“On the one hand, they have a command from Kyiv to hold on, not to give up under any circumstances, or they will be subject to reprisals. On the other hand, they understand perfectly well that if they lay down their arms and go in our direction, then we have an absolutely clear understanding that these are war criminals and they are subject to punishment, courts, tribunals,” his press service quotes Pushilin as saying.
The head of the republic emphasized that the investigative authorities have accumulated a large amount of information about war crimes committed by Ukrainian militants, so the creation of a tribunal is inevitable:
“We will still have to look into this and look into all the crimes. We know about many such inhumane war crimes... For a long period of time we simply recorded the crimes, but now they need to be transferred to the procedural level and a tribunal must be prepared. We need a tribunal."
