Pashinyan’s triumph: only his supporters entered the new parliament of Armenia
The Central Election Commission of Armenia has completed the electronic counting of votes in the early parliamentary elections, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The nationalist and Euro-Atlantic Bloc “Our Step”, headed by the current acting. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan received 70.43% of the votes.
In second place is the Prosperous Armenia party with 8.27%. The leader of this party, Gagik Tsarukyan, also supported Pashinyan during the revolution and, it is possible, will be his comrade-in-arms on key initiatives of the future government of Armenia.
The third party enters parliament with 6,37% of the votes - “Bright Armenia”, which also supported the revolution led by Pashinyan.
Parties representing the previous Armenian government, including the recently ruling pro-Russian Republican Party, did not even overcome the entry barrier. Thus, the country’s politics found itself cleared of representatives of pro-Russian forces. Experts predict a gradual softening of Yerevan’s position on the Karabakh issue and a course towards “soft” squeezing Russia out of Armenia.
