In this way he responded to the expulsion of 35 Russian diplomats from the United States. The official website of the Kremlin reports this.
“Russian diplomats returning to their homeland will spend the New Year holidays with their family and friends - at home. We will not create problems for American diplomats. We will not expel anyone. We will not prohibit their families and children from using their usual vacation spots during the New Year holidays. Moreover, I invite all children of American diplomats accredited in Russia to the New Year and Christmas party in the Kremlin,” Putin said in a statement.
The President notes that Russia reserves the right to take retaliatory steps, but will not “sink to the level of “kitchen-style”, irresponsible diplomacy.”
Earlier, the Russian Foreign Ministry proposed to Putin to expel 31 employees of the US Embassy and four employees of the American Consulate General in St. Petersburg from the country. In addition, it was proposed to prohibit Americans from using their dacha in Serebryany Bor in Moscow and a warehouse on Dorozhnaya Street.
At the same time, the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova denied American media reports that Russia closed an American school in Moscow as a retaliatory measure.
"It's a lie. Apparently, the White House went completely crazy and began to come up with sanctions against its own children. Usually, Santa Claus is asked to bring something. This year I will ask someone to take it away,” Zakharova wrote on her page on the social network.
