Labor migration destroys Ukrainian families
Due to the fact that many Ukrainians leave to work abroad, their families are breaking up.
Academician of NASU, Doctor of Economic Sciences, Professor, Honored Economist of Ukraine Ella Libanova stated this on the UKRLIFE.TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“There is such a bad thing associated with emigration as the breakup of families. Very often marriages break up, very often children and parents not only live apart, but they lose touch with each other. When mom calls even once a week, it's not like mom is there every day. This means that the child grows up without a mother, and the mother grows old without her child. Of course, this is where a problem arises.
I would say that social rejection is formed here. Rejection of parents from children, rejection of old people from their children. Still, in our country it is somehow accepted that children, if not financially, then at least morally support their elderly parents, and in general this is what happens.
In the case of migration, of course, this practically disappears. Old people cannot count on the help of their children. Of course, this is not good,” said Ella Libanova.
