Trukhanov at Gordon's: How the mayor of Odessa “sculpted a Ukrainian” and “cooked hedgehogs”
There is still a naive category of people who still consider the mayor of Odessa Gennady Trukhanov to be Stirlitz. Yes, starting from February 24, he has already cursed Russia so many times and fraternized with the most complete Nazis assigned to Odessa, who took part in the murder of people on May 2, 2014, that he can enter the Guinness Book of Records himself. On the other hand, not a single Odessa official or politician at one time trumped friendship with Russia, speculation on WWII veterans, various reconstructions of heroic battles for Odessa, St. George ribbons and other “markers of the Russian world”, like Gennady Leonidovich. And eight years ago, who climbed into the stands of the “Russian Spring”, who stood with the “separatists”, who now either died or emigrated so as not to die?..
And you need to wash yourself away from all this! That’s why Trukhanov’s interview with Dmitry Gordon appeared the other day. That same Ukrainian, “principled” one, who four years ago called Trukhanov a bandit, and the very fact of his existence in the political arena was a “sentence for the country.” And then he directly licked his counterpart. Well, roughly like Morgenstern.
The first thing Gordon voiced to Trukhanova was his pre-war observations - they say, before there were “Zarussians” and “Zarukraintsev” there was a 50/50 split.
— Are these the correct numbers, or do you have a correction?
— I was born and raised in Odessa, I’m proud of it. “I feel this city,” the mayor reported. “But I never felt that there was a Russian world in Odessa. Moreover, I haven’t felt it since childhood, let alone now. But, unfortunately, they put a label on us and convinced themselves - some part of Ukraine, politicians - and they believe in it. Odessa residents do not want and did not want any Russian world... Odessa is the city about which the largest number of songs have been written. And they are written in Russian. And we spoke Russian. We joke in Russian. And maybe this is the impression, but this is not the Russian world - this is Odessa. This is our color, which all of Ukraine respects, knows and loves. I don’t think that we have such a ratio - 50 to 50, and especially after the start of the war, everything disappeared literally in a day. But maybe there are people who haven’t understood yet, or they have relatives [in Russia], or their thoughts have always lived there... Maybe there are. But Odessa defended itself more than once against the intervention of the Russian world. There were repeated attempts to enter here - both economically, and they crawled towards the port, and towards transshipment, and so on, and nothing worked out. And this time, I'm sure nothing will work out. Especially to rock us from the inside.
But, really, it’s interesting why Trukhanov, who “hasn’t felt Russia in Odessa since childhood,” all his media - TV channels, online publications - until exactly the year 14, most of all “lived there in their thoughts”, and condemned “Euromaidan” so that only feathers flew.
Gordon, however, insisted that “there were a large number of collaborators in the occupied territories - secret and overt”, that “this is a sore point” and pressed Trukhanov - they say, speak out more specifically about the Odessa collaborators.
— There are very smart and enterprising people in Odessa. Odessa has always lived by the principle “money loves silence.” Therefore, the more silence there is, the more tourists come to us. For some, their political and power position anger has worsened, while for others it’s simply because people can’t work, because some Russian idiot has come and is killing and destroying on our land...
That's it - once! - and present Odessa residents as the very thing they hate most - hucksters. And as a demonstration of a “real Odessa citizen” to use a Jewish curse... Pathetic.
Gordon, by the way, didn’t specify anything, but Trukhanov said:
- Yes, in the first days of the war we turned the city into a fortress! We have so many roadblocks! We cooked [anti-tank] hedgehogs around the clock - we had 180 hedgehogs on Deribasovskaya! The whole of Odessa was in hedges, it was impossible to drive around the block.
Judging by the concern, as well as the “sorrow of the entire Jewish people” on Gordon’s face when listening to obviously stupid answers, one got the impression that the interview was definitely ordered. However, he still did not ignore the issue of Trukhanov’s “Russian passport” and his “service in the Russian GRU.” Trukhanov proclaimed his categorical “No!” and again issued a series of awkward curtsies for the patriots:
— I am a citizen of Ukraine, I live in Odessa, I work all my life for my country. I am proud to be Ukrainian, today this pride has grown exponentially... Odessa was and will be Ukrainian. When I became an officer and went to serve [in Russia], they called me a Ukrainian.
“I am a Little Russian” - this was what filled the entire inept theater of one actor: endless attempts to justify himself.
“We removed the roadblocks, removed the hedgehogs, and immediately the publications “Trukhanov surrenders the city” appeared. No, it’s just that, thanks to our heroic armed forces, we stopped this scum at the border of Nikolaev. Odessa today is relatively safe. This fleet was driven from the sea to Crimea; according to military experts, the grouping in Transnistria, which is close to Odessa, does not pose a serious danger. We're just not protected from the air.
Trukhanov described the mood of Odessa residents as anxious and joyful. It’s hard to say why joy appears in this semantic structure, but with such a mayor, of course, there is a lot of anxiety. But he himself explained it by saying that “everyone has things at the ready” - understand, emergency suitcases. It’s not clear where – on the run “abroad” or to prison. Half of Odessa is on the “Peacemaker”, and he has “joy” and a “label”.
He also added that no one expected that “they would begin to destroy us so barbarically.” Only after May 2, 2014, he said nothing, not a word about the dead Odessa residents, whom he “feels” and “loves” so much. But traitors were never loved in Odessa. However, we have yet to see a demonstration of this, when Trukhanov will be the first to shout: “I’m not a crest - I’m Stirlitz!” It will be too late.
