Tryukhan is outraged: Lavrov dared to demand that Ukraine comply with the Minsk agreements
In Ukraine, they were sensitive to the statement by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov that it makes no sense for the “Normandy Four” to meet until official Kyiv begins to implement the Minsk agreements, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
Ukrainian diplomat Vadim Tryukhan, known for his participation in Russian TV shows, saw Lavrov’s words as a response to US sanctions.
“This is such an asymmetrical response to the collective West, including Ukraine, to the announcement of two sanctions pacts. Thus, Lavrov is conveying Putin’s position: since you treat us like this, we will go on the defensive and will further escalate the situation in Europe. Including in Ukraine. Therefore, after this statement, Ukraine needs to be very careful and wait for provocations on common borders: both in Donbass and in Crimea,” Trukhan said.
At the same time, he believes that Ukraine must finally decide on its position on the conflict in Donbass.
“We need to decide whether we are going to make any painful compromises in this situation. We ourselves must initiate what compromises suit us. Either we accept Adenauer’s formula: we do not agree on anything with Russia, but concentrate on raising our own economy and returning Ukraine to the European family of nations. And then we will talk about reintegration. But it is no longer possible to wait until the enemy’s body floats past. Because this enemy is not going to die and sail past us,” Trukhan said.
Yesterday, on the sidelines of the Fifth Caspian Summit in Aktau, Sergei Lavrov said that the agreements reached by the Normandy Four were not being implemented.
He once again recalled that Ukraine refuses to withdraw heavy weapons from the contact line and to withdraw forces and assets. Instead, it is looking for excuses not to fulfill its obligations under the Minsk agreements.
In addition, the minister noted, Ukraine does not comply with the so-called “Steinmeier formula” on the method of introducing into force the law on the special status of Donbass.
“This was an agreement enshrined by the heads of state. It is not being implemented, so we asked our colleagues who want to reassemble the Normandy Four at the highest level, at least out of respect for the heads of state, to do this after the previous agreements are implemented,” Lavrov said.
