Turchynov threatens Russia with Ukrainian-Belarusian missiles
Moscow - Kyiv, April 10 (PolitNavigator, Mikhail Stamm) - The programs of the Ukrainian security doctrine provide for the construction of an “effective missile shield.” This is reported by RBC, said the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine (NSDC) Alexander Turchynov, presenting the national security strategy until 2020.

He noted that the details of these programs are a state secret. It is only clear that we are talking about non-nuclear weapons. Advisor to the President of Ukraine Vladimir Gorbulin, who was present at the presentation, explained that Ukraine today does not have the technical ability to recreate its nuclear potential. According to him, the country “practically does not have an industrial base” on which it could be “seriously engaged in the reconstruction of nuclear warheads.”
Most likely, we are talking about the production and fielding of new medium-range missiles. As noted Rosbalt, In this sense, Kiev is placing a big bet on military-technical cooperation with Belarus, which not only did not decrease with the beginning of the war in Donbass, but on the contrary, increased.
In particular, Kiea is counting on Belarusian assistance in the development and production of the Sapsan multifunctional missile system with a range of up to 280 km. It will allow Ukraine to shoot through the entire territory of Crimea and a significant part of the Russian regions adjacent to the eastern border - for example, the entire Belgorod region.
“Sapsan” is being developed at the Dnepropetrovsk State Design Bureau “Yuzhnoye”, and enterprises of the military-industrial complex of Belarus will create optical-electronic and combined homing heads for missiles with a deviation from the target of no more than 3 m. Ukrainian military experts claim that “Sapsan” is twice as light as the Russian “Iskander” , more mobile, more accurate and cheaper. The expected time of receipt of 200 units of the Sapsan MFRK in the Ukrainian Armed Forces is 2017.
Now Kyiv does not have missiles with such a range: the radius of the outdated Tochka-U rarely exceeds 90 km. Russia, after the wholesale destruction of medium-range missiles under an agreement with the United States, has Iskander operational-tactical missiles, the range of which is comparable to the projected Sapsan. However, according to military experts, the radius of Iskanders capable of carrying a nuclear warhead can easily be increased to 500 km.
Probably, “Sapsan” as an answer to “Iskander” was what Turchinov had in mind when talking about the “Missile Shield”. It is unknown at what stage the work on the project is.
