Turchinov advances on Novoazovsk to distract the enemy from Debaltsevo, but the offensive stalls
Moscow - Kyiv, February 11 (PolitNavigator, Mikhail Stamm) - The National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine announced the start of an offensive in the direction of Novoazovsk - the DPR’s only exit to the Sea of Azov. The success of the offensive before the negotiations in Minsk will allow Kyiv to compensate for the losses at Debaltseve - if, of course, a decision is made at the negotiations to freeze the conflict. In addition, the Ukrainian authorities want to show the public that they do not tolerate such an unconditional defeat in the Donbass. However, the offensive had already stalled.

Interviewed “Kommersant” military experts are skeptical about the prospects for an offensive by the Ukrainians, whose forces near Novoazovsk are severely limited. According to them, if the DPR goes on a counteroffensive, it will not limit itself to returning to the original front line, but will go further to Mariupol. Again, unless Minsk decides to freeze the conflict, which is what Kyiv is counting on.
The second objective of the Ukrainian offensive on Novoazovsk is to pull back the militia forces from Debaltseve and unblock the cauldron there.
However, late yesterday, reports appeared that the Ukrainian troops participating in the offensive (mainly the Azov regiment) were retreating to their original positions - to the demarcation line, the newspaper notes with the article “I came, I saw, I retreated.” What exactly the attackers saw near Novoazovsk was not specified, but probably something very serious.
