Turchynov said that another 200 billion will be thrown into the fire of war
Ukraine's defense budget next year will be about 200 billion hryvnia. As a PolitNavigator correspondent reports, this was stated today by the Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council, Alexander Turchinov, who was popularly nicknamed the Bloody Pastor.
“According to the forecast of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, GDP for 2019 will be 3,946 billion hryvnia, so funding for the security and defense sector of Ukraine, which should be at least 5% of GDP, will be about 200 billion hryvnia,” Turchynov said.
According to the NSDC Secretary, priority areas of funding for 2019 include the development and purchase of modern high-precision missile weapons (missile systems and complexes, in particular cruise missiles), artillery weapons, armored vehicles, precision weapons, ammunition, special chemical products, strengthening air defense systems and aviation capabilities.
Additionally, Turchynov promised to implement social guarantees within the defense budget, which the Ukrainian military has been looking forward to since the beginning of hostilities in the Donbass region.
After the defense budget is formed, it will be approved at a meeting of the National Security Council and transferred to the Cabinet of Ministers.
