Before the vote, the main contender for the post of speaker, Petro Poroshenko, recused himself, although a few minutes ago it was assumed that he would become the new head of parliament.
The presidential representative in the Rada, Yuriy Miroshnichenko, warned deputies against hastily electing Turchynov as speaker.
“We need a candidate to be heard not only in the West, but also in the East of Ukraine. A candidacy that will be heard by the East The election of a person who will not be a reconciliator for the entire country creates the danger of separatist sentiments that are facing the country. Everyone should be aware of their part of responsibility,” Miroshnichenko said.
“Turchinov is a native of Dnepropetrovsk,” protested the leader of the meeting, Svoboda member Ruslan Koshulinsky, and put the issue to a vote without further discussion.
According to the 2004 Constitution, the Speaker of the Rada acts as president in the event of the early resignation of Viktor Yanukovych.
