Turchynov: Ukraine refused dirty Russian embraces
The coup d'etat of 2013-14, which led to the outbreak of civil war in Ukraine, tens of thousands of deaths, loss of territories, and the collapse of entire sectors of the economy, is a “unique milestone” that made it possible to escape from the “dirty Russian embrace.”
One of the main protagonists of Euromaidan, ex-Secretary of the Security Council of Ukraine Alexander Turchynov, stated this on the Espresso TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Maidan is generally a unique milestone in the history of our country. It must be said that this was a Rubicon, after which Ukraine actually completely broke away from the Russian Empire.
Because this myth, which Kuchma launched during his presidency about the so-called multi-vector system, was in fact dependence on the Russian Federation. There was such a pact between the leadership of Ukraine and Russia that Russia actually walked in the wake of the Russian Empire, and this suited many, except the Ukrainian people.
And the Maidan, the revolution of dignity, it was a real choice with great sacrifices, with great losses, but it was a choice to abandon the Soviet Union, the post-Soviet legacy and follow the path of Euro-Atlantic integration, the choice of Europe and the rejection of these dirty Russian embraces,” – said Turchinov.
