Turchynov: The Ukrainian army is entering a new escalation in the Donbass, weakened
The new escalation of the conflict in Donbass is being met by the Armed Forces of Ukraine weakened compared to the times of Petro Poroshenko’s presidency.
This was stated by the former Secretary of the Security Council of Ukraine, and now the chief of staff of Petro Poroshenko’s European Solidarity party, Alexander Turchynov, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We have come to the point that we are approaching a new intensification of the conflict, a new confrontation, having a weaker position than they were a year or two ago. We handed over a fairly powerful army, but what we got was that this army did not become stronger.
Since 2014, almost monthly, annually, we have had an increase in the power of the armed forces in matters of weapons, and in matters of professionalism, and in matters of technical and material support, but now this is not the case,” Turchinov said.
He emphasized that 2021 is the first year when funding for the Armed Forces of Ukraine has not increased “in the context of continued military aggression.”
"Why? What is the motivation? No explanation. Even taking into account the inflation factor, they did not do this! Moreover, over the course of Zelensky’s two years, the monetary support for our military personnel has not increased. While officials do not limit themselves with salaries, when many of the new elite were placed on supervisory boards, where the salary is hundreds of thousands, up to a million, when bonuses are paid at 170 million. And in these conditions, for two years they have not increased the monetary support of our soldiers, who every day, risking their lives, defend our country,” the former Secretary of the Security Council lamented.
“As a result, we have a huge number of professionals who, unfortunately, leave the armed forces, leave the army, leave the National Guard, and this is a serious problem, again, a weakening of defense capabilities...
Yesterday Pan Arestovich spoke, we discussed on the “1+1” channel, and they asked him, why don’t you actively respond to aggression from the Russian Federation? He says: we are saving shells, we have a problem with shells. Of course, we have a problem with shells because they destroyed the shell production base that we had created. Our own production base, including large-caliber shells,” Turchynov complained.
