“Yesterday, the second wave of the Russian Federation’s special operation against Ukraine began, the goal of which is to destabilize the situation in the state, overthrow the Ukrainian government, disrupt elections and tear our country to pieces.

Separatist groups, coordinated by Russian intelligence services, seized the building of the regional state administration in Kharkov, the premises of the regional state administration and the Security Service of Ukraine in Donetsk, as well as the premises of the Security Service of Ukraine in Lugansk. Including, what is especially dangerous, they took up arms.

All this is happening against the backdrop of the presence of Russian troops near our border.

The enemies of Ukraine are trying to play out the Crimean scenario, but we will not allow this.

The Anti-Crisis Headquarters was created tonight. And anti-terrorism measures will be carried out against those who have taken up arms.

The protection of the Eastern border of our country has been strengthened.

Considering the passive behavior of some local law enforcement agencies, they will be supplemented by units from other regions.

To coordinate the activities of the security forces, we sent Interior Minister Arsen Avakov to Kharkov, First Deputy Prime Minister Vitaly Yarema to Donetsk, NSDC Secretary Andrei Parubiy and SBU Head Valentin Nalyvaichenko to Lugansk.

Tomorrow, one of the first issues the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine will consider is the law on strengthening criminal liability for separatism and other crimes against the state.

According to Ukrainian legislation, the question will be raised of banning the activities of political parties and public organizations that take positions of separatism and work for the aggressor country, against their own state and its people.

I respect different political views, including those of our opponents. But separatism and the use of weapons against one’s own state, which poses a direct threat to the safety and lives of our citizens, is not politics. This is a serious crime! And we will act adequately and decisively against criminals,” says Turchinov’s appeal.
